What participants and family members are saying about the Sensory Learning Program and our  Center.

"Our experience": The Sensory Learning Center has been an extremely positive and rewarding experience! The staff was amazingly supportive and knowledgeable throughout our entire treatment. We have 2 days left and my son Bradley is already showing signs of improvement. Such as his fine motor skills, increased language, his general temperament is calmer and happier, his tantrums and aggression have diminished and he is definitely more aware of his surroundings! I know this is just the beginning! Thank you Sensory Learning Center!

My Vision Improved! It's amazing!

I am grateful every day for my improved vision from my treatment at Dr.
Daniel and Dr. Davis Optometry. It was one of the most important things
that has ever happened to me.

I had visual problems since birth, which were corrected as well as
possible at the time through vision therapy when I was a pre-schooler
and with surgery at 5 yrs. old. I unconsciously compensated with right
eye suppression, which enabled me to learn and achieve at school; and I
never thought about my eye problems because my left eye had 20/20
vision.

Then with normal aging, my eyes got presbyopia. I tried to get glasses
that would help, but they made me feel bad. I hardly noticed the
decreased vision, since I really depend on my other senses. I ignored my
growing vision difficulties, and went on with my life, not admitting to
myself or anyone that I was no longer reading well enough.

It got to the point that I was avoiding almost all reading, without
realizing it. Finally, I noticed that even when I was trying to read, I
did not comprehend what I read. I went through full testing to rule out
a problem in my brain, like early Alzheimer's. The tests concluded my
problem was "slow visual processing." By the time I found Dr. Daniels
and Dr. Davis, my vision problems had made me fail at a couple of jobs
because I could no longer copy information accurately or shift my vision
from one place to another painlessly and accurately.

I did not yet know I had vision problems that were correctable at this
stage of my life through vision therapy.

When Dr. Daniels first saw me, she examined over 10 pairs of glasses
prescribed for me by other optometrists.

I was well over 50 yrs. old when I started vision therapy. My therapy
has been long; and it's been difficult to make progress. With some
exercises I had success, but I still cannot correctly and comfortably do
some of the original exercises prescribed for me. However, most of the
time, I cannot even remember why some of the past exercises were
difficult, because they seem so easy now. After nearly 2 years, I am
still slowly making progress in vision therapy exercises.

The Sensory Learning Center program was one of the most pivotal
experiences in my life, and was key to my therapy. Basic levels of my
nervous system have gotten more correctly programmed, so I can build
visual skills on correct neurological foundations.

Most importantly, I am now able to function better in life. I know more
about what my vision problems do to me. I have better ways to compensate
for my continuing difficulties, including glasses that I can make work.

I am now able to do a huge number of visual tasks with relative ease
that I could not do before vision therapy.

A huge thank you to Dr. Daniel, Dr. Davis, Dr. Duke, my other vision
therapists and all the staff!

Our Thank you Drs. Daniel & Davis & staff for bringing Sensory Learning Institute to So. Cal. Also thank you for  supporting our "Space Camp/Astronaut training" theme, as this was our way of having fun with this program. As our son Zachery has mild sensory integration dysfunction issues, we have seen only mild (day13 so far) or subtle differences. We are hoping that over time (sooner than later) we will see the fruits of our labor, as well as the SLC staff.

As old behaviors revisit us, like we had been forewarned by the SLC staff, we, the parents, found that we needed some assistance in dealing with this. I would encourage all parents who participate in SLC to talk to SLC staff about any issues you might be having as we have found them to be very supportive & helpful in helping us deal with the resurgence of old behaviors. At the same time of this program, we have been attending a Parenting Class (Redirecting Children's Behavior) thru Childrens Hosp. which has also helped us get thru this process. We recommend this call as well.

Thanks for your wonderful team of caring and involved people! Lucie has had changes in her visual contact, balance and speech. It was a real pleasure meeting the families  & children in the environment created by you clinic.

Yes, the commute was long twice a day - but when we arrived the Staff was so accommodating and understanding. I am very optimistic to see improvements. We were very excited to her some spontaneous thought when Chase came up with a dozen items that were the color of the light on his own. Towards the end he did much better with the "table rides".

Thanks again for being so nice, and accommodating to me and chase, this type of attention and environment is non existent in other clinics & Dr. Offices. Looking forward to an SLC Reunion

My son Ronald had such a far away distant look in his eyes, but now he is staring into my eyes and I get to see the entire appearance of my son, not just a piece of him. There has been many nights I prayed for the moment when he would be able to look in my eyes with affection and feelings.

He has the prettiest ebony eyes I have ever seen, now. Thank you so much S.L.C., words can't express how I feel, thank you for your dedication, setting examples and breaking down barriers not just with my family, but in the community, I feel as though the sky is the limit.

Today is day 12 & both Sam and I are exhausted. But still feeling good about our decision to give this program a try.

Sam is 5 & his development has been very cyclical.. two steps forward & 1 98/100 steps back. Prior to starting at SLC, he has been on a roll in his speech & language, compliance & noticing more of the world around him. I am attributing this (partially anyway) to new prism glasses.

We have continued to see more improvement during the first 12 days. Some old behaviors had reared their heads & compliance has been down since day 8. I am telling myself this is all good because something is going on in his brain.

He has looked forward to coming both times each day so that has made things easier for mom. The first couple of days I had to get on the table with hem. The last couple of days he has been going in by himself.

I am liking forward to maintaining my relationship with the SLC staff & picking their brains when new challenges present themselves.

I'm hoping to see the improvements continue & at this point, would recommend the program to anyone looking for help with their austic child.

We had a very positive experience at SLC. Stressful at times as my daughter was quite reluctant to the therapy at first, the twice daily "rides" got easier over time.

The SLC staff, Marvin and Danielle in particular, as well as Drs. Daniel and Davis , were always helpful, upbeat and innovative and they were able to make my daughter comfortable in the therapy environment.

We have seen great improvements in Lisa's language, especially in word utterances and sentence composition. Thank you so much!

Anne had shown noticeable improvement in her vertical perception following her therapy. It was apparent, that this therapy was a valuable adjunct towards her rehab efforts following a stroke. Thank you
